What to Expect from a Speech Therapy Evaluation?
Children can often experience some uncertainty around starting something new - speech therapy is no exception! Here is what you can expect from a speech therapy evaluation session at Simply Spoken.
- Build Rapport - First and foremost we want your child to feel comfortable! This means getting to know each other, following your child’s lead during play, and validating their feelings. We want to know what toys your child enjoys so we can tailor our sessions to their interests.
- Evaluation - We conduct the initial evaluation to determine your child’s present levels. This could be with testing kits, play time on the floor, parent questionnaires, and observation. It’s important that parents join the evaluation so we can determine if what we see and hear is consistent with how your child performs at home. We need to know where we start so we know where to go!
- Q&A and Recs - Throughout the evaluation session we want you to ask as many questions as you can think of! Trust me, we will do the same. At the end of the session we will discuss areas of strength and challenge, professional recommendations, and talk about scheduling. You can plan to start services within 2 weeks of your evaluation.
- Sessions Begin - You will receive your child’s report and plan of care in our secure client portal prior to their first treatment session. Please make sure you review this prior to their first session and come with any questions. Services typically start within 2 weeks of the initial evaluation.
